Here’s the thing right. When you have kids, you really have next to no time for anything else.
So when you do have time alone, (which, if you are like me, is most often when everyone else is in bed) instead of sleeping yourself, you don’t. You sacrifice sleep for peace.
Solitude. Me Time. Silence. (Heaven).
Honestly, I do tend to think this is the one and only reason I’m always so tired.
Sleep is a really important part of my day. I loooove sleep. I love sleep more than anything. Have I mentioned I’m not a morning person? Well, I’m not.
Sleep is better than chocolate. Sleep is better than wine. Sleep is better than sex (well, mostly).
But can I tell you the one thing I will always choose over sleep? Silence.
There is nothing better, and I mean NOTHING better than listening to my household and hearing nothing at all. No yelling, no arguing, no one asking me to come and see them for the 50th time, no questions, no demands for food, no stupid computer games, no youtube videos, no MotoGP. nada. zilch, zero.
Silence.
Yes, I sometimes think to myself that I should have gone to bed earlier the night before, but when you really think about it – who would be able to sleep with all that craziness still running about in their heads? Not me for sure.
The silence allows me to still the crazy thoughts. To calm myself down. To be able to actually think without being interrupted 35,786 times. It’s mental as well as physical relaxation that’s needed, something I really don’t think women pay enough attention too. Calming your thoughts is just as important as relaxing your body.
Thankfully I don’t do this every day, I know how important good rest is and trust me, I’ll take it whenever I can, but sometimes, the simplest and easiest way to calm your mind and reset your thoughts is as simple as giving yourself the silent treatment.
