Right, so – let it be known that I am definitely NOT a hoarder (far from it!), although I do admit I have been known to keep things I probably don’t need, just because they have previously held such a place in my life that my brain can’t get over the fact they will never again be actually useful (I’m looking at you, size 6 pre-baby jeans).
Most of our possessions capture emotional moments or memories of our past and it can be hard letting go. There are, however, a plethora of other “stuff” that we continue to keep for no rational reason whatsoever and I’m here to give you permission to go ahead and chuck them.
6 Things you really need to rid from your life right now include:
-
CDs. Save yourself space and go digital. Save to a hard drive or use a streaming service like Spotify.
-
The same goes for boxes and boxes of Photos. Get them put onto a hard drive and join the 21st Century.
-
Printed Instruction Manuals – Most manuals are available online and if not you can always scan and save the ones you have. I seriously doubt you will use many of them anyway.
-
Original Packaging – unless you are a collector or you plan to sell soon – get rid of them. Why waste valuable storage space on an empty box?.
- A Landline. Unless you don’t have a mobile (or have kids/elderly parents at home alone who don’t have one either) then its just an unnecessary expense. How many calls do you get on your landline? Unless its telemarketers – I would guess close to zero. So get rid of it.
- Paper Bills. Who gets bills in the mail anymore? If you do, $10 bucks tells me you are paying for the privilege. All companies charge a fee these days for sending a paper bill and frankly – who wants to keep folders of paper for no reason anyway? Swap all your bills to be emailed to you and save the digital file instead.
Yay! Go Forth and Purge. I promise you will thank me later.
